Chamber

A collaboration with artist Mat Chivers to provide an enclosure for an ephemeral art piece. The structure was designed to be installed in a redundant bathhouse. The architecture borrows from the typology of a temple, which orchestrates a suspension of disbelief in the inhabitant. A sequence of spaces provides thresholds, separating the exterior from the interior chamber where the work is presented. The refined finishes reflect this sequence, while the aspects of the structure that are separate from the staging of the central experience have been purposefully left in their crude industrial state. The raised pyramidal roof has an iconic character referencing the form of a temple and related associations.
